Fly to Toronto
Pearson Toronto International Airport (YYZ)
Toronto’s primary international airport is located approximately 30 km (18 mi) from the city centre. An airport shuttle train called the Union-Pearson (UP) Express takes just under 30 minutes to reach Union Station.
Billy Bishop Toronto City Airport (YTZ)
Short- and medium-haul flights from major North American destinations, typically operated by regional airline Porter Airlines, arrive at Toronto’s smaller waterfront airport, Billy Bishop. Much closer to downtown, a regular shuttle and the 509 streetcar connect Billy Bishop Airport to Union Station, and through it to the city’s subway and regional rail network.
Drive to Toronto
Toronto is situated on the North-West shore of Lake Ontario across from Rochester, NY. Highway 401 connects Toronto to Kingston, Montreal and Quebec City to the East, and Kitchener-Waterloo, Windsor, and Detroit, MI to the West. Its closest interstate border crossings are:
- Alexandria Bay, NY to Lansdowne, ON
- Buffalo, NY to Fort Erie, ON
- Niagara Falls, NY to Niagara Falls, ON
- Detroit, MI to Windsor, ON
- Port Huron, MI to Sarnia, ON
While Highway 401 becomes North America’s single busiest highway as it runs through Toronto’s northern outskirts, driving to Toronto is not as much of a challenge as parking in the downtown core.
Get around
Walk
The majority of downtown Toronto’s landmarks, including the CN Tower, Casa Loma, and the Art Gallery of Ontario, are within a 3 km (2 mi) radius from the University of Toronto. Attendees staying in on-campus accommodations (details TBA) or nearby hotels would only be a short walk away from the conference venue.
Public transit
The city is criss-crossed by buses, streetcars (light-rail trams), and subways operated by the Toronto Transit Commission (TTC). Fares are paid using the Presto card system, which accepts contactless debit and credit cards.
The closest subway stations to the University of Toronto are Queen’s Park Station on Subway Line 1 (College St & University Ave) and St.George Station (Bloor St. and St. George Ave.) on Line 1 & 2. It is also served by the 510 Spadina and 506 College streetcars.
Bike Share Toronto
Toronto’s bike sharing service offers convenient access to over 10,000 bikes in 1000+ stations. Many major streets have painted or protected bike lanes, and the waterfront, major parks, and recreation areas are connected by mixed-use cycling and walking trails.
